I have and will continue to fight passionately for the rights of parents and students alike. On October 3rd I addressed the New Hanover County school board on how the district’s adoption of AI online monitoring software is violating the 4th amendment privacy rights of our students.

As a Software Engineer with over 25 years of experience in the profession, I can see through the public relations spin of Dawn Brinson (Assistant Superintendent of Technology). They want you to believe that no personally identifiable information is being tracked on our students. However, I know that AI doesn’t work this way. It can’t make intelligent decisions on what is or isn’t a safety threat without data, and lots of it! This unwarranted surveillance of our children will continue to expand in breadth, scope, and cost, until someone puts a stop to it. I will!
